Four dimensional Machine
Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 21:39:11 (PST)

Only in the fact that the machine opened "a fourth dimension" in real-time-space-time reality. It opened a worm-hole, fully explained by Einstein through a document which, I believe is called, "The Einstein-Rosen Bridge Theory", taught in physics class during high school, for me, at least....Look up the fascinating observations of wormholes through Wikipedia, and/or read some of Einstein's papers. All of it, quite easily accessible on this here gadget that we call "The Internet."

Hello?? Is there anyone else out there who loves this movie as much as I do????
Please, speak up - especially if you have any opinions on the Blu-Ray transfer.
Thanks!

I wonder if anyone else has had difficulty accessing the "special features" section. I can't tell if it's simply NOT on the disc, itself, or if the problems is with my HD/Blu-Ray hybrid player.....

Unfortunately, Blu-Ray makes the effects look much worse. They looked good on the standard DVD, but here you can really see how transparent (and fake) they are. I can't complain about any of the rest of it, though. The picture has definitely gotten a lot sharper.

I'm rather disappointed with the Blu-ray transfer. It probably looks better than the DVD (I haven't compared them side by side yet), but compared to other high definition discs, this one leaves much to be desired. I wouldn't hurry to show this disc to anyone.

Even the original Star Trek looks much, much better in high definition, and the source is much, much older.

Yes. What was the significance of this little pattern. The bass vio's swell during it's appearance too. So the movie makers we're doing something. Maybe it's a hook to connect us with a planned sequel. It' s also shaped like a dish with the detector at the vertex.

I have always wondered about a line in the movie. "you have your mothers hands". Anyone else wonder why this line was in the movie? It was not in the book. The strange thing about it is this: Elli's mom died in childbirth so Elli never met her. How then did the "vagans" 'pull it out of her mind'?
This has bugged me from the very first time I saw the movie years ago. If any of you know a place where I can find some info, or discution on this subject I would be eternaly greatfull. Darla

I can't believe I skipped over this movie for so long. I'm twenty three years old and just finished watching it for the first time. I thought Sphere would forever be my top sci-fi movie, but that day has ended.

Definitely hold onto you regular edition DVD, Al. I'm not certain that the B-R editions will contain all of the great extra's found on the standard. I once "begged" Criterion to release this with extra's, as they do so well. They can release crap (IMO) like "Armageddon" but not even consider "Contact." Sheesh!

I know.... We have to wait until October 6. I went back to check on when my order would arrive and my jaw dropped when it said, Delivery, October 9, 2009!! My initial email said "Contact Blu-Ray is available now for purchase." So, I thought, great. I had pre-ordered it and here I get this message telling me that it's released NOT! ! Grrrrrrrr! You know what Forrest would say....Anyway - it IS going to GREAT to watch in Hi-Def!!! Finally!

"This title will be released on October 6, 2009."

About time! Thanks for the tip. It would be nice if it came with bonuses, but just to have the movie itself in HD is going to be awesome.

CONTACT II

The 17 hours of static , was not static its more blue prints . primary number some how
come in to play to help to decode the message, as its the only way to pack information this densely

.
Dr arroway did fall straight threw the core and was partly right
she did imagine it .She didn't go anywhere. here consciousness did
not her physical body . So the aliens made a determination base on
her life experience and thoughts that we wear ready for the next step
the question is are we?"small moves small moves - well for us this is
going to be a huge move of faith ,trust something?

the second message questions whether we have the resources and skills to
build the REAL TRANSPORT all nations and people must commit and
sacrifice a great deal in order to build what seems to be beyond are ability
and useable recourses . but the payoff could be beyond imagination.
some call this massive undertaking our evolutionary destany.whal others
questions the motives of the massagers .its on the edge of what's possible
for humanity as a whole . provided we can unite for this porpous, we are
at our peak with our technology and this will take us to the next level literally.
just as one culture teaches another so they will teach us But can we do it?

this is the simplified premiums

the MACHINE that transports matter ie people is a massive torrid 10 Miles in diameter
thousands of feet thick ,superconducting in nature and uses 30 nuclear reactor
spaced around the RING and when idling causes storm formation from the
massive amount of ocean water evaporate around the rectors cooling tower

its really BIG and when tested creates its own
aurora Borealis as city around the world dim from the massive drain .
even from space station it obvious that it doing some bizarre to the atmosphere
and the city dim to power hungry monster warming up .seats 4 gets 10 light years to the gigawatt
. WANA TAKE A RIDE ?

the builders of the gate ways from billions of years have returned and contact may not
be possible due to the fact the universe is expanding at a geometric rate so time is of essence
the message suggest they are curious about us our minds - emotions -dreams ...
but we have to make the next move soon.our we are trapped hear on earth ,since they
understand how to traverse space or rather guide throes threw it with out loses.we are dependent
upon them for galactic travel .But that will change. Yes we have wings ,but they will teach us to fly.

Just A thought

Thank for the Read

Thought provoking with very believable characters "literally"
it seems to eco or resonate in me still .I don't understand
that. but it makes me ask questions , and isn't that what
Carl wanted ???" Find your own answers"??

Done Right Contact II had good potential.

I think the main idea of this movie is really interesting.
Notice it was made in 1997 or so and at the moment 2009 a lot have passed, we have more knowledge about the Universe and some particular subjects. Would be nice if a second movie could be made with the recent knowledge we possess to build a new movie. People have the right to know who the Human technology advance towards this matter.
BlackHoles, WhiteHoles, WormHoles, speed of light and particle accelerators are very interesting thing these days.

I'm still looking for an answer. What do the ) shaped stars mean in the glitter, and the popcorn on the floor. Does anyone know or have a theory?

some say that to love others u must first love yourself, well, then to expect to see aliens leads me to think that we must first observe how we treat our own people on earth such as immigrants. we actually pay agents to patrol borders to keep people out of countries; yet we expect to see space aliens? and how would china or some rebel country feel if the US did see space aliens and receive technology? would the USA want other countries have the same? would we worry? IN CONCLUSION, how can a world power nation deter space people from helping other nations, well, aliens will not come to a planet of war such as earth, which is why war exists.

the writer chose a storyline based on a search for life outside of earth. i think the writers' underlying meaning is how to cope with being Lonely, or longing for something. the alien explains this to jodie foster while they are at the beach during her experience. its more about human psychology than it is about finding life on another planet, and we can choose any infinite way to portray it thru screenplay.

What a movie, the question we should ask is, not IF another life force will contact us but WHEN? In an age where every year we advance more in technology surely it's only within a whisper that either we or someone else will say "HELLO", however that maybe. Would we truly be prepared for this? We are nothing but an enigma. Parts of earth fight whether relatively, historically, politically or religiously but neigh primitively over things which if we are truly advanced as our science would suggest we would draw a line under. We cannot see beyond the main focal points, we over populate, rape, ravage and pillage the earth in all forms. If Mr Sagan can create such disputed fiction to inflame the minds senses then why cant we cherry pick and elaborate on such issues at hand?

I love how "out of this world" this movie is! It makes you think about other demensions and other realms, teleportation, a window to other worlds, and what we as humans don't know... and haven't discovered yet. I myself find this subject VERY interesting

What an amazing movie. Seen it at the movies when it came out in 97 and its still as great now as then. Would love to see a sequal. There have not been that many great sci-fi movies since its release and with the amount of sci-fi remakes flopping this would surely be a worthwhile project. An amazing cast but individually have not done anything great since contact, surley this would boost their career? Any ideas on what the plot would be? please leave ideas as you never know who might be reading this site!

Hello,

I am putting this out there to anyone who may have noticed a reacuring pattern throughout the film. When Dr A lost her father the popcorn on the floor was spilled in a pattern. The sky on the alien world contained the same pattern of stars and the scene where she looks at the sand in her hand is the same. The constellation of corona borealis or nothern crown fits this shape. Check it out. Was this a hint to where a real signal might have been? Was Carl trying to tell us something?
